Can you believe how much misinformation is out there on songwriting? There is some really good stuff. And then there’s what comes shooting out the back end of a bull.
Stuff like killer song titles.
Nonsense.
Garbage.
Lies, lies, lies.
Tain’t no such thing.
That’s as bad as believin’ stuff you read up on Fakebook.
Any how. If that were the case, with as much focus as there is on titles, you’d think we’d be sniffing in every nook and cranny for the killerest song title EVER.
I can tell you right now, you’re wasting your time.
It don’t make no squat a difference what your title is. Because there is no killer title ever written, and I can prove it.
First, one band had a tremendous hit with a gorgeous song in its day with just to letters. If. That’s it! How killer can two letters be for a title?
You could even have one as clever as, it’s Hard To Kiss The Lips At Night That Chew You’re a_s Out All Day Long (Vince Gill/Rodney Crowel)
Still a clever title like that ain’t killer.
Why?
Because without a killer lyric making a title killer, you ain’t got nothing but ‘woids’ no matter what they are.
To quote Bill Murray in the movie Stripes… “Dat’s duh fact jack.”
There is however, a ‘sloo’ of elements and techniques to make them more memorable, attractive, unique, etc. I give you a shipload of them in your free issue of TuneBooster.
Shoot, I even give you 136 titles you can run off and have an affair with if you like. Be my guest.
Anyway, that’s all in the free download up on the site there. The thing to walk away from with here is it’s not so much what the title is, but how your lyrics put it on a pedestal like Miss America freshly crowned.
The short story is, it’s your song which makes the title not the other way around. No tail waggin’ the dog around here.
Anyways. Write what you want for a title. Pick up the free download for stuff you can include in them to help them, but don’t be looking for no killer title.
