My wife is a fiber artist. She makes yarn, weaves, and various items out of textiles.
I tell you, EVERYWHERE we go, and she finds someone who is into that art.
I’m shocked.
You can’t swing a guitar around by its straps without hitting one.
How does she meet so many of her kind?
She brings it up to everyone in conversation, who and what she is.
A fiber artist.
Imagine if you introduced yourself as a songwriter.
You get stuff like…
Oh, a free spirit.
Really, did you write anything I know?
Oh, that is interesting, how do you do that?
Imagine if I were an auto mechanic and introduced myself as such?
Think people would say…
Oh, really what kind of spark plugs do you use?
Or if I were an accountant?
Amazing, what software do you use?
Blah blah blah.
Try this for a week or two.
Forget your day job label.
Introduce yourself as a songwriter.
See what reaction you get.
See how that makes you feel.
Is that inspiring in itself?
You can tell them you only are a school teacher to support your songwriting.
