Schwarzenegger falls short in Phy Ed

I’m a biography freak. Love them, no matter who they are.

I’m half-way through Arnold Schwarzenegger’s autobiography: total Recall.

Whether you’re an Arnold fan or not, I bet there’s some things you didn’t know about him.  One of which, relates to songwriting.

  • First, did you know by age fourteen, still back in Austria, he had written goals to be Mr. Olympia and then be a Hollywood movie star?
    • Lucille Ball, America’s loving comedian as well most powerful woman in Hollywood at the time, eventually took him under his wing and supported him. Gave him his first real acting spot which aired.
    • While Arnold was setting title records for bodybuilding, he was still in the bricklaying business. He and his workout buddy, Franco Columbu, were bidding jobs and doing the work themselves.

There’s more, but what was really funny was while competing in body building, dabbling in acting, running his mail order business from home, and I believe still in a bricklaying business; he continued his education.

Jackie Kennedy-Onassis found out he had been taking classes ala carte for years, because he originally could only take so many at a time due to his Visa status.

She asked him if he had a degree. He said he didn’t know, he couldn’t get one due to the Visa so he kept just taking classes because he loved to learn.

She hooked him up with a college to see where he stood.

They denied him because of two shortcomings.

One was he needed science classes.

The other?

He didn’t have enough Phy Ed.

You kidding me?

The only man to consecutively win six Mr. Olympia titles, and he needed a Phy Ed class to get a degree.

That’s just nuts.

It reminds me of songwriting.

There are college courses you can take…

Workshops galore…

And on-line educationals you can find, right?

Well, maybe Arnold didn’t know the rules for tennis or how to play football, but he sure knew about physical education.

Just like Arnold, maybe you don’t know the history of music or songwriting, or know the fancy chmancy terms for music or songwriting…

But you sure know what makes a good song when you hear one, and thus, songwriting, and capable of writing great songs if you want.

You’ve heard them all your life. It’s in there.

You just need some coaxing and prodding to help either get you writing, or help make you a better writer.

and that my friend, is what Tune Booster does.

September’s issue is right around the corner, ready to, “Pump YOU up with 15 techniques to get a song off and running in a listener’s ear.”
