Just realized it’s been a while since Jax, my 2-year old grandbud, showed me another bit on songwriting.
Hey, I’m looking for a vid of him fingerpicking his little plastic guitar. The cute factor is out of this world. I’ll see if I can dig it up and pass it along.
Anyway, I was slaving away at the writing desk the other day and my phone rings.
It was my son. I’ve got a drum solo clip for his ringtone, so I know it’s him.
Only, it wasn’t him.
No one answered when I said, “Hello.”
Just some breathing and rattling around.
Turns out it was my grandbud, Jax.
I figured daddy unlocked the smart phone, poked my contact, and handed the phone to Jax to talk to, “Gammpa.”
Daddy wasn’t even in the same room.
Jax got a hold of daddy’s phone, probably saw my pic on the contact, pushed it and Wala…
It’s Gammpa chatting’ time.
He talked up his 2.75-yar old chatter. Some I got, some not.
We were probably talkin’ five minutes before dad realized Jax was talkin’ to me.
We were having a blast.
That was a cool call.
Thing is, nobody sat Jax down and said…
“Here’s how you unlock daddy’s phone and dial Gammpa when you want to.”
They also didn’t tell him, you’re two years old, you aren’t capable of dialing Gammpa.
He learned because everyone around him has a phone like that.
He can’t not learn if he watches them poke and slide fingers around the screen.
Same with songwriting.
It’s not about some natural ability ‘shytskie.’
It’s about seeing it where ever you go, and breathing it. And stuff like what’s in September’s Tune Booster.
Besides 15 snappy techniques to use in the very first line of your song to grab your listener by the shirt, you’ll find out a songwriting element inside something you see every day. How it’s used, and why. And why you need to use it in your songwriting…
Or lose your listener.
You might not even open this thing up again without seeing songwriting there.
In fact, this particular thing? You don’t even have to open it to see what I’m talkin’ ‘bout.
And you’ll totally get what I’m stepping in.
You’ll step in it too.
