Blood thirsty tags and songwriting habits

Maybe you’re like me.  Maybe not. You choose.

I’ll be ridin’ along in traffic at the end of the day and I’ll realize… what the hell has been naggin’ the back of my neck all day long.

Sure enough, it’s one of those wicked shirt tags.

Hang in. We got songwriting principle on the way…

When I get a shirt I really like? One that wears all comfy and cozy and I want to buy another one… I have no idea who made it… because I ripped it off and tossed the mfg’s calling card out the window in a fit during a five o’clock traffic jam before the tag chewed a bloody hole clean through to my Adam’s Apple. Wicked little blood thirsty labels.

So I was thinkin’. From a marketing standpoint, that ain’t too smart for companies to put their calling card in a place like that.

Its prob’ly nowhere near some textile designer’s radar to put a tag in the right spot, along the waistline like the smart textile companies do.

It’s a no brainer, obvious simple little thing to me, the consumer, but I know I ain’t the only one ripping those wicked little tags off the neck.

And sometimes we songwriters are just as guilty about missing the obvious.

Sometimes as writers we get in a habitual funk and miss exploring some of the obvious elements of a song which can take it from a good song to a great song.

I talk about one of those things in April’s issue. Phrasing and melody. Fact, you got homework this month… yeah baby.

Shoot, typing just now I realize the March issue is still up there. March is a different spin on rhyme patterns for part of it, another area we don’t explore as much as we should.

I better take the March issue down soon before I forget… so twiddle your little fingers up to https://www.tunesmithtips.com/newsletter/
